RAW SPIRIT FEST was held on Saturday and Sunday, August 29 and 30. Reverend Patricia McDaniel, the interpreting co-ordinator succeeded in obtaining ten interpreters on Saturday and again ten on Sunday. There were many booths selling foods, clothes, herbs, books, colorful hoola hoops, aromatherapy oils and incenses, etc. About 12 deaf people attended the festival. They are: May Wille, Carol and Steve Moore, Ann and Steve Cole, Sue and Bob Mather, Dina Raevsky and her friend, Jimmy, Dean Keefe, Beryl Kohn and Jim Haynes. Most of them enjoyed the food demonstrations the best! We also enjoyed the inspiring and empowering talks given by well-known raw food leaders. THE DEAF GROUP ENJOYED THE RAW SPIRIT FESTIVAL TO THE FULL WITH GRATEFUL THANKS TO REVERENT PATRICIA McDANIEL AND ALL THE INTERPRETERS WHO VOLUNTEERED THEIR UNIQUE SERVICE. THANK YOU, THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU :) POTLUCK NEWS 09/28/2009
On Sunday, March 8 a raw food potluck was held at Carol Moore's home. At 2 PM about 20 friends turned up with their respective dishes or fruits. Carol demonstrated spinach soup which was then distributed to start the meal. It was good! Everybody enjoyed the lunch with relish. Then Sarah Rauber, the acupunturist who is also a sign language interpreter, gave an excellent presentation on acupuncture. At 6 PM everybody went home contented after such a warm fellowship. Since then there has been no raw food potluck because May and Carol flew to Panama for a retreat for the deaf at Tanglewood Wellness Center. They were joined by two friends from San Francisco, Judi Fruge and Bea Worthen. The founder, Loren Lockman, took us to the beautiful beach, did two demonstrations on raw food dishes, gave us lectures, etc. We were fortunate to have an interpreter who lives near Tanglewood. After the retreat four of us fasted with water. Judi and Bea flew back home after two weeks and Carol left a week later. May stayed on for three months. The tropical fruits grown at Tanglewood Wellness Center and also bought at the local farms were the most delicious we had ever tasted. The garden there was full of exiquisitely beautiful flowers, floral ground covers and trees. 50% of these trees bear fruits like mangos, quavas, bananas, etc. Deaf Raw Food Newsletter 08/25/2009
